Early morning on the Grand Canal, as we row our battered old boats to work for the day’s shoot. Not quite as enchanting as midnight, but I’m putting this in because it’s not likely you’d ever see the Grand Canal totally empty of other boats. (Hint: It was a holiday.) (And it was early.) And if I hadn’t been working — so to speak — I’d have missed it too.
